Community Connection

Professional networking groups are an ideal way for business owners to make connections and support one another in the growth of their businesses. BizCon-X of Central Maryland offers those same benefits to business owners, but with an added opportunity. When the group was founded in 2016, a key principle was to go beyond connecting with one another and connect with the community as well.

During the holidays, BizCon-X raised $880 to support the Holiday Giving Campaign of the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center in Columbia, which provides 24-hour crisis intervention services, emergency and transitional shelter, and community education. The funds were used to buy 32 gift cards to GIANT, Walmart and the Sunoco Gas Station.  In November, members contributed to the Thanksgiving Basket Drive of the Howard County Association of Realtors, raising funds to donate full dinners to four families.  For the past few years, the group volunteered at the Howard County Food Bank monthly, but COVID-19 precautions reduced the number of visits in 2020. COVID-19 led to a new need in the assisted living community, where residents were often isolated from family and one another. They donated a range of items to the Ellicott City Nursing and Rehab Center, including puzzle books, adult coloring books, colored pencils, crayons and individual snack bags for residents. The members of BizCon-X remain dedicated to their community and to each other, even during the difficult times we’re living in.
