A Healthy New Beginning
Jun 28, 2021 02:22PM ● By Katrina HallThe idea of wellness in our society has changed in the past few years, evolving from an appearance-based ideal to one based on improving overall health. Selfcare has become a more universal concept that is reflected in every space of one’s life: body, mind, spirit. This concept has been linked to our environment, our community, our emotions and even our careers.
Rick Weedon, JD, began his career in corporate America after graduating from the Howard University School of Law. He worked in telecommunications as a financial representative and as the Employer and Business Development Director at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. In 2015, he faced a shake-up in his career.
“I left Corporate America because I was asked to leave. After seven years there, I was laid off. I started thinking of what I could do for myself; I couldn’t picture myself being an older guy in that career.” Weedon and his wife, Natascha, went through the process of developing a set of ideas and principles that would lead to a successful wellness platform aimed at whole-body wellness, that would include his knack for financial management and business development.
“Back then (about 6 years ago), I really didn’t know what to do. It was a confusing time for me to figure things out,” says Weedon about starting his own business. Despite his initial confusion, a focus on community inclusion and by extension, community wellness began to chart their path. “I was always an ‘ABC’ (Always Be Closing) kind of guy. I learned to keep the letters, but changed them to mean ``Always Be Curious.” Rick shares that during this time he was
in poor health and was introduced to a health & wellness company that would forever change his life. My wife Natascha and I decided to pursue a business in health and wellness. Their business, Wealth Thru Wellness, sprang from this open-minded ideal and began Weedon’s and his wife’s journey toward personal wellness and entrepreneurship.
“One of my missions in 2021 is to impact a hundred men to take steps toward better health and well-being. I feel that men neglect their health,” says Weedon. Weedon’s genuine care and effort to improve the lives of clients locally and virtually has had a positive impact on his own life. “It’s a personal mission of mine that aligns with Natascha’s and my vision for our community,” he says. Weedon’s story proves that unexpected change and resilience can truly be a gift that is life changing in the best possible way.
